Chamonix-Mont-Blanc (in Franco-Provençal arpitana or Chamonix) is a city in France, Haute-Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes. Known worldwide, Chamonix is the "Mecca" of mountain climbing and mountain sports. It is a very cosmopolitan city. Its inhabitants
are called chamonezi (in French and les les Chamoniards Chamoniardes).
Chamonix called in everyday language, the city is situated in the north of the Alps, at the foot of Mont-Blanc Massif, near the junction of the border between France, Switzerland and Italy. Chamonix Mont-Blanc is the fourth largest village in France, having
an area of 245 km ².
