Deauville is a town in the department of Calvados, Basse-Normandie region, northwestern France.
The first reference about Deville is the year 1060. At that time Deville, called A Enilla, seems more a fishing hamlet than a village. The name comes from the German Enilla (Auwja Auwa) and means "wet meadow". Current city and resort was founded by the Duke of Morny and arranged between 1860 and 1864.
