About Meribel - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Méribel - the heart of the "3 Vallées"!
Due to its central location in the heart of Trois Vallées, Méribel is particularly popular. From here there other ski areas of the world's largest interconnected region are easily reached. Typical for Méribel are the chalet buildings which are built in traditionally style and emit wonderful Alpine charm. Many accommodations offer ski-in option for easy access at the end of the day. The historic resort centre of Méribel is located in Méribel Village (1,400 m). This has nourished the district Méribel-Mottaret (1,750 m) with the local ski station. The traditional and quiet ski resort offers wonderfully forested area which can also be explored on an extensive network of winter hiking trails.
SkiThe ski area "Vallée de Méribel" offer 150 km of Olympic pistes (1992 Albertville) and 50 lifts. The new cabin lift "Saulire Express" takes you up to the peak at 2,738 m in only 12 min. (previously 22 min.). The centrally located connection lift "Les Plattières" in the 3 Valleys even saves more time for you: within only 9, instead of 22 min., the comfortable 10-person gondola takes you to the mountain station. From there you can either ski back to Méribel or down to Les Menuires.
Being one of the highest regions in the Alps, the ski region promises fantastic snow conditions and surety. Even at the beginning of May skiing and boarding is seldom a problem. The 1 km long run "Les Bosses" in Méribel is known to be one of the most challenging in the entire region and requires a fair amount of courage. Well exercised skiers will find a challenge and also the possibility to test their stamina.
For pros on skis and snowboards, we recommend the lift pass upgrade to the "Les 3 Vallées" (see ski region). More than 600 km of prepared pistes and 199 lifts are available here and offer pure fun in the snow. For all those who can't part with their skis, twice a week there is night skiing on a brightly illuminated piste (depends on time of season).
Even after a lively day on the piste you still can experience a lot in Méribel. Whilst lovely boutiques invite to stroll and look, cafés and restaurants offer a great choice of apres ski in the evening. This can be continued either in the cinema or also on the bowling alley. Night owls can then continue on to the bars and discos, where you can keep going until way into the night. Especially recommendable is the bar "Le Poste", which impresses with it's modern design and varied offers. Those who feel that this all is still not enough can look forward to a trip Val Thorens, where you can dance the night away until the early morning hours.
Of course you can also remain sporty in Méribel, once you have finished your day on the pistes. In the indoor pool and on the ice rink, for instance. Or you can enjoy a game of squash or bowling, or even spend your time outdoors on snowshoes or a snowmobile.
Classic and skating style fans will find a total of 33 km of trails available in Méribel. Some lovely tours will take you through the forest of Fontany, other lead along the Tuéda lake just above the Méribel-Mottaret.
Especially experienced skiers and well exercised are well catered for in Méribel as most of the trails are of a more challenging level. But also intermediate (10 km) and easy (6 km) trails can be found here. Therefore there is something available for everyone. The longest trails is the "Piste Roge Altiport" with a total length of 10 km and at an altitude of 1,590 - 1,700 m.
