About Valloire - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Valloire - heart of the three-valley connection!
Valloire is located right in between the 2 mountain passes Col du Galibier and Col du Télégraphe in the Savoyard Alps. The picturesque village is dominated by old, stone buildings, and right in between those runs the Valloirette stream - providing the village with a very unique mountain village charm. But this place is so much more than only a place of French Alpine tradition. Leisure time activities, such as ice skating and paragliding, but also more extraordinary sports, e.g. speedriding on skis or a tandem jump from a propeller jet on skates can be tried here.
The resort organises an attractive winter season programme for all it's visitors every year. The New Year's Eve event "SnowBall" on the main street and the "Big Air Festival" with DJ and mulled wine stands are only two of a number of cultural events that take place here.In January 2015 for example, there is an event you won't want to miss: Valloire host the annual ice and snow sculpture championships, in which international artists carve and display their frozen works.
SkiWith the lift pass "Valloire Galibier" you have the choice between 31 lifts and 89 pistes with a total length of 150 km. The ski resorts Valmeinier 1500, Valmeinier 1800 and Valloire comprise the fifth-largest ski region in Savoy.
Endless snowy slopes with dreamy pistes for carving and skiing spread out above the mountain village of Valmeinier at Les Gros Crey. The largely undeveloped slopes on the opposite side offer fantastic opportunities for deep-snow skiing. Snowboarders will find a daily-prepared snow park with a half-pipe and a boarder cross section at Crey du Quart near Valloire. The ski region's altitude (70% lie above 2,000 m) and 400 snow-making machines ensure the highest degree of snow-reliability.
Looking for even more variety? Orelle, located just 23 km from Valloire, offers the perfect entry to the "3 Vallées" ski region, the largest interconnect ski region in the world. When presenting your lift pass in Orelle, you will be able to benefit from great reductions on the day passes for the ski area Val Thorens.
Not as diverse as the winter sports offers, but surely nothing to be ashamed of, is the pub and bar selection in Valloire. In the bowling centre "La Mafayo" you can not only enjoy throwing over a few pins or playing billiards, but you can also get chatting over a tasty cocktail. Occasionally the pub "Le Moussequif" and the alternative café "Mast'Rock" have concerts on offers. Wilder apres ski can be found in the disco "Le Slalom" where you even have free entry. After you have enjoyed yourself on and off-piste, you may find it is time to relax in the sauna, Turkish steam bath or jacuzzi of the fitness centre "Le Val Forum".
Real apres ski also includes a good taste of beer. As small as the village of Valloire may be, it does actually have it's own brewery - the highest located brewery in France. Brewed with glacial spring water, this beer tastes fresher than any other. Every Friday there is a beer tasting and sale directly at the brewery.
All around Valloire and Valmeinier there are a total of 10 km of cross-country trails available for free use. Just above Valloire there is a beautiful track which leads through slightly inclining valley to a small air field. A further trail begins on the other side of Valloire and runs, partly inclining, towards Valmeinier, right up to Les 3 Croix. Even if the network is not the largest - the surroundings will captivate you!
