The construction of La Plagne (Eng.: Alpine Meadows) as a ski region first began in 1960, between the Valley Isere and the 3,400 high Dome de Bellecote. Just one year later, the first lifts began working and in the course of the year the artificial villages were created around Plagne Centre. Later the designers rather wanted to create a cosy atmosphere and turned towards the chalet style to create their buildings, and so besides the large concrete living blocks, La Plange also offers quaint apartment complexes now. Today there are various stations, each with a different appearance. This is best observed in the evening in the cosy restaurants, as they begin to serve the local savoury dishes, and in La Plagne Centre where the party scene comes into swing. The ten stations are connected throughout the day until 1:00 am through a complimentary shuttle bus, and occasionally with gondolas. .
The resorts special charm and its diversity make the French resort especially interesting skiers travelling in groups. Everybody who is hungry for party and action will find ideal conditions in La Plange to end the day with the right music and a little alcohol. Numerous bars, discos and the casino give you space to party until the sun goes up. When travelling in groups, the many winter hiking routes are also popular, caring for a sporty après ski experience. For some, the party only starts when the sun has set! All those guests looking for après ski fun are well-catered for, with countless bars and clubs inviting you to come in to party and flirt. The whole area offers various bars and restaurants waiting for party-goers. Popular meeting points in Belle Plagne are "Cheyenne" and "La Tête Inn". Also the "Spitting Feathers" ski bar at Plagne Bellecote is English owned and very popular with its live sport and regular Happy Hours. Those who prefer something a bit quieter can experience the exquisite cuisine in the local restaurants. Local specialities are also offered in the mountain station lodges. The complimentary shuttle bus between the stations is in operation until 1:00 am!
Also during the day La Plagne provides diverse entertainment with a wide variety of offers: helicopter flying, ice climbing on the artificial ice tower or on the frozen waterfalls, a velocity rush on the snow scooter or in the ice canal (originating from the Olypic Winter Games in 1992) - in La Plagne your imagination can run riot! Quiter activities as snowshoe and winter hikes, ice skating or an enjoyable ride with the dog sledges are also possible.
