Brest is a city in western France, sub-prefecture of the department of Finistère in Brittany, the westernmost continental French Atlantic port.
It is situated in a magnificent bay and coast occupy two hills divided by the river Penfeld. Part of the city located on the left coast is called Brest, while the right is situated on the coast known as Recouvrance. There are also extensive in the eastern suburbs
of the city.
The hills are, at times, so steep that climb from the lower town to the above must be performed on two or three stairs and the floor of a house is often at ground level with the next house.
