Brest is a city in western France, sub-prefecture of the department of Finistère in Brittany, the westernmost continental French Atlantic port.
It is situated in a magnificent bay and coast occupy two hills divided by the river Penfeld. Part of the city located on the left coast is called Brest, while the right is situated on the coast known as Recouvrance. There are also extensive in the eastern suburbs of the city.
The hills are, at times, so steep that climb from the lower town to the above must be performed on two or three stairs and the floor of a house is often at ground level with the next house.
Due to location, Brest is regarded as the first French port that can be achieved in the Americas. City location is ideal and therefore is able to host port or any type of boat.
Brest city still keeps very little of the old architecture, some monument and Tanguy Tower Castle is no exception. This is due to the Allied Bombings of the Second World War in an attempt to destroy the German-built submarines in port. In the 1950s the city was rebuilt. In Recouvrance, west of the city, there still remains an authentic 17th-century streets, street Saint Malo.
A few kilometers from the city are some impressive landscapes, sandy beaches, caves and cliffs of granite. Beach, windsurfing site, sailing and fishing are common activities in the area.
