About Chamrousse - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Chamrousse – Olympic slopes at a smashing price!
Chamrousse is situated at approx. 1,700 m in the Belledonne Massif and offers a gorgeous view of the approx. 30 km distant Grenoble and the surrounding mountains. The resort is known mainly due to the Olympic Games, but also hosts one stage of the Tour de France. Since the triple Olympic success of the Jean-Claude Killy in 1968 this ski resort has hardly lost any of it's fascination. But not only ski pros can find suitable descents here, the resort is just as good for beginners and snowboarders.
The westward exposure of the town guarantees not only excellent snow but also a lot of sun in the afternoon and evening. A particular attraction is the sunset over the French lowlands, which causes the clouds and snowfields to glow red - hence the name Chamrousse, which means "red fields".
The resort stretches out a total area of 1,300 hectares on various levels. From the chalet village Bachat-Bouloud (1,700 m) located on the Plateau de l'Arselle you can take the bus to the other districts Roche Béranger (1,750 m) and Recoin (1,650 m). There you will find further amenities characterising a modern winter sports resort, e.g. cosy cafés, bars, restaurants and of course several shops to stroll around in. Our cosy chalet-apartments mostly offer a magnificent view of the French lowlands.
SkiWith the lift pass "Chamrousse" you have access to 16 lifts with a total length of 90 km. The ski area (1,650 - 2,250 m) in "Massif de Belledonne" offers an exceptional view of the surrounding 4,000 m mountains and of the French loWi-Fids. Due to its geographical location at the western edge of the Alps, Chamrousse is considered a very snow-sure area. The Olympic area above Chamrousse 1650 is waiting for all sporty and ambitious skiers. As well as red and blue slopes, there are also blacks to be conquered.
Chamrousse 1750, on the other hand, offers a great selection of easy runs and the chance to ski through delightful deep powder snow. The two parts of the ski area are also perfectly connected to each other. The ski area of Chamrousse is generally suitable for the whole family. Especially the pistes in Roche Beranger are ideal for families with children. Due to its large snow park, Chamrousse has earned the name "Espace Freestyle". Also, a Kids Fun park can be found in Chamrousse. A further delight: Once a week in the French holidays in February the piste "Les Gaboreaux" to Chamrousse 1650 is lit up, allowing you to savour the lovely view of the lights of Grenoble whilst night-skiing.
In the afternoon the sun terraces at the lifts in Chamrousse 1750 and 1700 as well as as the lift's mountain station invite you to relax. If you're in the mood for a beer and some good music, head to "K-Dox" in Chamrousse 1700. Shopping fans will get their moneys' worth in the shopping centre and shops in Chamrousse 1650 and 1750. Typical Savoyard specialities, e.g. crepes, fondue or raclette, await you in Chamrousse's restaurants.
If you are looking for other sporty activities apart from skiing, you have the choice between snow shoe hiking, paragliding and a ride on a snowmobile. An ice rink and 2 small toboggan runs are also available. Our holiday reps offer an attractive programme. e.g. a welcoming evening and a traditional fondue or racelette meal.
The forested high-altitude plateau offers a total of 40 km of tracks. In most cases there are also skating tracks available. Above all, we recommend the "Astragale", which is quite a challenge for conditioned cross-country skiers. A service station is there, and you also have the opportunity to take cross-country lessons. A fee per day is levied for use of the tracks.
