Located on a lovely hillside, at an altitude of 1,600 m, Saint Sorlin d'Arves presents itself in typical Savoyard charm and thereby distinguished itself from many other French ski resorts. The traditional architecture with the many wooden-clad forms the charming appearance of the resort. Saint Sorlin d'Arves is well known for its traditional cheese production, and visits to the local dairy farms and cheese tastings are a welcome break to a days skiing. On the village streets, with various shops and boutiques, you will find quite a hustle and bustle going on. Numerous cosy restaurants and bars invite you in to try Savoyard specialities and enjoy idyllic mountain atmosphere. Vivid past and lively present are two things which are combined wonderfully in Saint Sorlin d'Arves and ensure an unforgeable holiday experience!
Ski"Les Sybelles" (1,100 - 2,620 m) offers 310 versatile kilometres of piste as one of the biggest ski regions in France with mostly easy to medium levels of difficulty, as well as 71 lifts and altogether six interconnected ski areas. The regions at the bottom of l'Ouillon (2,431 m) that offer a great variety are called Le Corbier, Saint Sorlin d'Arves, St. Jean d'Arves, La Toussuire, Les Bottières and St. Colomban des Villards.
The massive area of pistes offers ideal conditions for beginners and families with children because the numerous blue pistes arrange for a diverse introduction into the skiing pleasures for the less practised. The mostly blue pistes of Le Corbier bottom out levelly so that beginners or children can reach the village without difficulty at any time. Experienced skiers will also enjoy the 200 km of red and just under 19 km of black pistes.
In addition to many family friendly ski runs, Les Sybelles also offers very good deep powder snow conditions, amongst others, at l'Ouillon, Bellard and Grand Truc. Those who like to let loose on the prepared pistes will have fun on the black piste "Casse Pipe". Freestylers can run riot in the snowpark, and night-skiers can enjoy two floodlight pistes.
This winter season, the ski area has invested broadly into a new, red piste from the L'Ouillon (2,431 m) and two brand-new chair lifts. Both, the 4-person chair lift Ourson, as well as a the 6-person chair lift Voie Lactée, take off some of the load of the Sybelles-Express at the Pointe du Corbier. Further, the Crozat-Zone has been re-designed and the beginner area in Le Corbier has been fitted with new magic carpets.
Apres ski in Saint Sorlin is held rather quiet. After an exciting day on the piste you can let the evening come to a cosy end with delicious Savoyard food, such as Raclette or a cheese fondue. If you still are not beat after that, you can visit the pub "L'Avalanche" and enjoy a round of billiards or darts, while party animals can shake a leg in the disco "D'Sybelles Club" with a few great cocktails in hand.
A day away from the piste is well spent in Saint Sorlin d'Arves as there are many leisure activities on offers. No matter if you are looking to go snowshoe hiking or dog-seld riding, speeding through the snow on Quads or going paragliding, the numerous activity offers seem to never come to an end! Or visit one of the local dairy production farms and experience the art of cheese-making.
In the area around Saint Sorlin d'Arves there are some smaller practice tracks of altogether 16 km which are ideal for the first tries on cross-country skis and give you a wonderful view of the surrounding winter landscapes.
With a bit more experience you can challenge the high altitude track in the neighbouring resort Le Corbier. This trail is located at 1,600 - 1,700 m altitude, is approx. 2 km long and fascinates with a wonderful panoramic view. Pros and skiers with good stamina are recommended to try the trails "Garney et Lombardaz" , also in Le Corbier, and "Champ Perousaz" in La Toussuier, each with a length of approx. 6 km.
In total the ski area of Les Sybelles offers 39 km of tracks, in classic and skating style. Thanks to the diverse offer there is something to fit each preference and level.
