Tignes - the ski region of superlatives!
Ski
The "Tignes" lift pass allows access to 150 kilometres of excellently prepared piste, which are well connected through 28 lifts. The ski area has a reputation of being exceptionally snow-sure - not only due to the altitude of the "La Grande Motte" Glacier (3,656 m) - and is a favourite among experts and beginners alike. Beginners can try their first steps at Col du Palet or on the green and blue pistes above Tignes-Le Lac. Demanding skiers will find what they want in the glacier ski area on Grande Motte and in Vallon de la Sache, where they can conquer an altitude difference of 1,198 m over a stretch of 2.8 km. Safe and controlled deep snow slopes in Vallon de la Sache make the ski area a paradise for free riders and variant skiers, as well. The snow park on the glacier is also a special experience, offering special tables, slides and jumps for newbies, as well as action for intermediates and experts. If you would also like to take advantage of the Val d'Isère ski area, with a further 150 km of piste, we recommend an upgrade to the "Espace Killy" lift pass (see ski region). Both areas are perfectly connected with each other and promise pure fun on the slopes!
While skiing is naturally the most important thing in Tignes, the après ski scene comes in at a close second! A multitude of bars, cosy restaurants and several clubs take centre stage in Tignes. A real hot-spot is Grizzly's Bar with an arctic atmosphere. For those who like to remain active, there is a natural ice rink available in Le Lac (free shuttle bus service). Alternatively, there is the Aqua Centre, with water and spa facilities, where you can go to relax. Those looking for something a bit more daring can go ice diving in the lake at Tignes! A special highlight is the "Tignes Airwaves" where performers put on an extreme sport show in Freestyle and Freeride!
Together Tignes and Val d'Isère offer 44 km of cross-country skiing runs. In both areas you will find trails where you can take dogs on your trip. Val d'Isère also offers skating runs. A high-altitude run can be found at the Lac d'Ouilette (2,560 m). The 3 km long track can be accessed for a small fee, an investment which is worth paying, not only for advanced cross-country skiers. At the glacier in Tignes (2,900 m), there is a 6 km long high-altitude run which can even be used in summer. Because of its high degree of difficulty this tour is only advisable for experienced skiers. Another challenging run is the 6.5 km long "Manchet" in Val d'Isère. However in total the trails can be categorised as easy to intermediate.
