About Val Cenis - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Val Cenis – tradition, quality and perfect pistes!
Val Cenis is situated in the heart of the Savoyrd Alps on the Italian border. The resort comprises of the districts "Lanslevillard" and "Lanslebourg", which are only 3 km away. A complimentary bus runs from the districts to the gondola. Both districts of Val Cenis, Lanslevillard and Lanslebourg, have maintained their Savoyard charm and provide for various chair lifts up into the ski area. Friendly locals, picturesque lanes, various shops and exquisite French cuisine are highlights, which mean for a successful holiday.
SkiWith the lift pass "Val Cenis Vanoise", you have access to a total of 125 km of prepared pistes and 28 lifts and gondolas in Val Cenis' and Termignon's ski area. Amongst this, there is a 6-person chair lift, "La Turra", with which the connection to the Termignon ski area was enabled in 2008. This lift is one of the fastest chair lifts in Europe, meaning that waiting times are short!
As the ski area is located on the northwest side of the Mont Cenis, it is highly snow-sure. The snow stays fresh for a long time, and in the afternoon you can enjoy the sun at one of the mountain huts. In the forest you can explore fascinating tree runs, and off-piste you'll find interesting canyons and natural pipes. Some people have actually jumped from the roof of a snowed-in mountain hut. While experienced skiers get a thrill on the "Michèle Jacot de la Met" run (starting 2,800 m), the less advanced have a go on the longest beginners ski run in Europe – the "Escargot" (in English: "snail"). Enthusiasts will have fun in the two snow parks on different altitudes, including a boardercross.
In the approx. 35 km distant Orelle you will find the perfect access point to the ski area Val Thorens, in the centre of the 3 Valleys. This excursion into the world's largest ski area should be a part of every holiday!
With the lift pass "ESKI-MO", you can enjoy the pistes in Val Cenis Vanoise as well as one day of skiing in the ski areas Aussois, La Norma, Valfréjus and Bonneval sur Arc. The ski areas are easily reachable with the free ski bus. This means that there are over 300 km of pistes waiting to be discovered!
Après ski fun begins in the afternoon, on the sun terraces and in the lodges and restaurants in the ski area. For entertaining evenings, there are many restaurants, which serve traditional Savoyard delicacies to pizzerias, so there is something to suit everyone’s taste buds. Highly recommended is a visit to the crêperie, as this typical French speciality should not be passed up.
A livelier atmosphere can be found in the bars and pubs! Here you can see out the day with a cosy drink or two. A disco will make sure that party goers have a great time!
For everyone who wants a break from the piste, there are countless attractive alternatives: from tobogganing through dog-sledding to paragliding or snow-shoe hiking amongst the snowy landscape. If you’re looking to relax, then you will find a 150 m² spa area in the “Aqua Spa Institut”. In addition, there is an indoor pool, ice-rink, as well as a bowling centre.
If you want to get into cross-country skiing right from the basics, Val Cenis is the place for you! 27 kilometres of trail are accessible free of charge. A further 4 km can be found at the Col du Mont Cenis. These are accessible by taking the chair lift "la Ramasse".
