The capital of the department of Herault and Languedoc-Rousillon region, Montpellier is a great city, but attracts many tourists due to charm the old trails, shops, museums and restaurants, as well as life style, very relaxed and contemporary. South of town you will find many quality beaches.

The city is situated on a hilly terrain at a distance of 10km from the Mediterranean coast, on the River Lez. The city was originally called Monspessulanus (Fr. Mont Pelé) which means "naked mountain" (named due to its low vegetation).

Founded in the tenth century, Montpellier since the Middle Ages became a cosmopolitan cultural and economic center where Jews, Muslims and Christians have always lived in good understanding, tolerance and mutual respect ensuring rapid development of the city.

Chateau d'Assas: It was once a summer residence, the creation of architect Giral, being one of the most beautiful buildings in this region of France. Interesting is the collection of vintage musical instruments.

Mogere Castle: Another great castle built in the eighteenth century and extended in the nineteenth century, there can admire a superb collection of furniture and interior decorations and gardens.

Castle Flaugergues: dating from the seventeenth century, the furniture is made of French and Italian artists in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The castle houses a rich collection of art and is surrounded by landscaped gardens in the French style.

Languedoc Museum: hosted by a lovely villa has very rich and diverse collections of prehistoric tracks, Gallo-Roman, Greek, Etruscan, Egyptian, medieval, and not only, but a small selection of ceramics and sculpture.

Fabre Museum: created in 1825 by the painter Francois Xavier Fabre, today is one of the most famous and valuable French museums with rich collections of art Flemish, Dutch, Italian, Spanish and French from the XVI - XVIII. Interesting is also a section dedicated to nineteenth-century French art, and collections of pottery, sculpture and contemporary paintings.

Anatomy Museum: is located in the Faculty of Medicine of Montpellier, one of the most popular in France.

Atger Museum: Faculty hosted throughout the building, here visitors will find one of the richest collections of drawings of French artist, Flemish, German, Italian, Dutch, painstakingly assembled by Xavier Atger collector, who donated this veritable treasure Faculty Medicine in the nineteenth century. There is also a collection of manuscripts dating back centuries her too VIII - XIX, as well as a very valuable collection of drawings of Flemish artists.

Musee du Vieux Montpellier: the ancient city dedicated to the history, with an interesting collection of furniture, art, documents and various objects.

Fougere Museum: private museum, art and traditions, can be viewed as a complement to the Musee du Vieux Montpellier.
Pharmacy Museum: opened in 1972 and is especially popular among tourists, largely due to the rich collections of documents.

Musee des Moulages: unique institution in its halls you can see over 300 casts, reproductions of ancient and medieval sculptures, very well done.

Infantry Museum: a very interesting military museum, which details the evolution of infantry from 1480 until now. Besides the exhibits - weapons, armor, documents - the museum has a section for models and objects.
